Scrap posting and handling

I previously asked about my scarp handling method. Previously I would post the final quantity as the quantity the order started with and then after closing it, I would transfer the items to the relevant locations, I would transfer the finished item to stock and the scrapped to scrap. E.g. if the order started with 100 and 10 were scrapped, I would still close the order with 100 (even though I did post the 10 scrap at the relevant step on the production journals) and transfer 90 to 003 location (stock) and 10 to 023 location (scrap). I would physically take the 90 to stock and physically throw the 10 away. Then once a week I would negative adjust everything on the item journals that were in 023 location.

However, you all recommended rather closing the order with 90 items and changing the item tracking lines at the final step then to qty 90, while still posting the 10 scrap at the relevant step. This has been very helpful, thank you so much, since this is less manual and won't cause inventory confusion. I do however have a question, because now on the released order after posting the final steps in the production journal the line item shows : Quantity: 100; Finished Quantity: 90; Remaining Quantity: 10. Then when I change the status to finished it says that there are still some items missing, I just say yes and close it anyway. I want to know what happened to that 10-remaining quantity?
And if I want to model how much items are scrapped in total at the end of a 6-month period where would I find this information on NAV, since I previously just looked at everything that was transferred to scrap location?
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

The “Remaining Qty. = 10” disappears because you already posted those 10 as scrap.
Finishing the order simply acknowledges that those 10 will never be produced.
Where to see total scrap later?
Use Item Ledger Entries filtered for scrap (output entries with negative qty or scrap qty). That’s your 6-month scrap total.

    Hello,

When you finish a production order with 100 planned and 90 finished, the system shows 10 as “Remaining Quantity” because those units were never produced—they’re treated as missing, not automatically scrapped.

Since you posted scrap during production, those 10 are accounted for in the journals, not in finished goods.

To analyze scrap over six months, use Production Journal entries (Scrap Quantity field) or Item Ledger Entries filtered by scrap postings, or build a custom report based on output journals for accurate totals instead of relying on transfers to a scrap location.

    Hi,

If you posted scrap correctly in the production journal, you can also use the Production Order Statistics or create a report based on Prod. Order Line and Prod. Order Component tables combined with Item Ledger Entries for Scrap.
If you want a 6-month scrap summary, the most reliable source is Item Ledger Entries filtered by Location and Entry Type.

    Thanks
