In D365 Sales ,A Entity record owner is assigned by a user, for example, Sales Rep A. A workflow has been configured to automatically update a specific field whenever the record owner is changed.
Issue Observed During Audit:
The "Owner Modified By" field correctly reflects the username of the person who performed the reassignment.
However, the "Field Updated By" value shows as "System", even though the change was triggered by a workflow.
Clarification Needed:
This behavior raises the question:
Is this an out-of-the-box behavior from Microsoft Dynamics , or is there a configuration issue that needs to be addressed?
Additional Context:
The workflow process owner has been confirmed to be a user account.
This may explain why the field update is logged as "System" — since workflows executed by both user and service accounts often run under the system context.Scenario Overview:
