Can MRP create planned purchase orders for a project?

We are a construction-based company, and we manage projects with SCM: purchase, manufacturing, and inventory.

We are currently using the MRP for products not related to the projects, and it is working perfectly.

The question is whether there is a way to specify to MRP that the PO must be planned/created for a specific Project?

We really appreciate your input and feedback.

Thanks!

I don't think you can have MRP create Purchase Order for a specific project.  A good hint is that the Planned Orders (ReqPO table) have a Project ID field.  Another is that there is no pegging available to a Project.

Best you can achieve is using a Project Forecast and have that forecast generate demand for an inventoried item, which would trigger a Purchase Order.

Hi Danny, thanks for your input!

The Project Forecast is a good idea, although we currently we don't manage forecasts...but I'll take a look at it...

Standard MRP in D365FO does not automatically create planned purchase orders linked to a specific Project.

    Common workarounds:

    • Use Project Forecasts as demand source in Master Planning

    • Create Project Purchase Requisitions instead of relying on MRP

    • Custom development to peg project demand to planned orders

Thanks, ForgeStock, for your input; we truly appreciate your feedback.

In fact, Project Purchase Requisitions are already part of our existing process.
