Production Order Planning Error (Rounding Precision Issue) in Business Central

Hi Everyone,

I am facing an issue while running the Make-to-Order (MTO) production process in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Issue:When I create a Firm Planned Production Order and perform planning from the Order Planning (5522, Worksheet) page using the Calculate Plan action, I receive a rounding precision-related error (If requesting support, please provide the following details to help troubleshooting:

Error message:
The value 0.05953 in field Quantity is of lower precision than expected.

Note: Default rounding precision of 0.00001 is used if a rounding precision is not defined.

). Because of this, the planning process fails and I am unable to proceed further.

What I have already checked:

  • Verified that the Production BOM and Routing are correctly defined

  • Checked that the Item has proper Base Unit of Measure and alternate Units of Measure

  • Reviewed Quantity fields in Production Order and related documents

  • Confirmed that no manual incorrect decimal values are entered

  • Checked Item Tracking and Lot Size (if applicable)

  • Verified Manufacturing Setup and Planning parameters

  •

Despite these checks, the issue still persists during planning.

Questions:Are there any specific settings related to rounding precision that could cause this error during Order Planning?

How is rounding precision configured in Business Central (e.g., in Units of Measure, Item Card, or General Ledger Setup)?

What is the correct way to define rounding precision for quantities in manufacturing scenarios like Make-to-Order?

Could this issue be related to Unit of Measure conversion factors or Quantity Rounding Precision setup?

Is there any recommended standard practice to avoid such rounding issues during planning?

It would be really helpful if someone could also explain the concept of rounding precision in Business Central and how it impacts production planning and quantity calculations.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, It seems to be related to the settings below; you can check it first.
Business Central 2021 wave 2 (BC19): Rounding for base unit of measure (Quantity Rounding Precision)

    Thanks.

    Hello ,
This is basically a quantity/UOM rounding setup issue, not really an MTO logic issue: during Order Planning, Business Central calculates a required quantity like 0.05953, then validates it against the item’s allowed quantity precision, and if your Item Unit of Measure setup, Qty. per Unit of Measure, BOM/component quantities, or planning Rounding Precision do not allow that many decimals, the process fails; so the main fix is to review the produced item and especially the low-level BOM components for messy decimal conversions, define the right Quantity Rounding Precision on the relevant Item Units of Measure, and keep UOM conversions and BOM quantities as clean as possible, because Microsoft docs state that alternate UOM conversions commonly create these rounding problems and that manufacturing/planning scenarios may need a very small planning rounding precision such as 0.00001.
