Query on Quality Order and Batch Consumption Behavior in D365 F&O

Hi,

I would like to understand whether the following business scenario can be configured using standard functionality in D365 F&O.

Scenario:
I received a quantity of 10 units from a vendor through a Purchase Order and created a quality order for the same. The item is batch-enabled and not using Advanced Warehouse Management. The received batch is LOT0001 for the full quantity of 10.

After quality inspection:

  • 7 units are approved (pass)
  • 3 units are rejected (fail)

However, when I attempt to consume this material in a Production Order, the system allows consumption of the full batch quantity (10 units), instead of restricting it to only the approved 7 units.

Requirement:
The system should restrict consumption to only the approved quantity (7 units) and prevent usage of the rejected quantity.

I have explored options such as Inventory Blocking, Batch Disposition, splitting quantities in the Quality Order, and Quarantine Orders, but none of these approaches achieved the desired outcome.

Could you please confirm whether this requirement can be configured using standard D365 F&O functionality, or if customization would be required?

Thank you,
Vandan

    Hi Vandan,

unfortunately to the best of my knowledge what you are trying to do is not possible as per standard behavior (which I agree is a pity) because the status of the batch (or of the disposition code, if you are using that) changes at the header level of the quality order.
What I end up doing usually is the following:
    - Pass everything
    - (optionally, but some prefer) Split the batch;
    - Block in the final location the quantities that did not pass through a quality order based on on-hand and fail them.

    Best regards
