BC28 - SMTP Connector silently drops all email attachments - SMTPMessage.AddAttachment()

Environment:

 

  • Business Central Version: 28.0.4665.48837

  • Connector: SMTP

  • Affects: All attachments (programmatic and manual UI)

Steps to Reproduce:

 

  1. Set up an SMTP email account in BC28

  2. Open any document (e.g. Posted Sales Invoice)

  3. Open Email Editor via any method

  4. Add any attachment — either via UI "Add files" button or programmatically via EmailMessage.AddAttachment()

  5. Click Send Email

Expected: Email arrives with attachment

 

Actual: Email arrives without attachment, no error shown

    Hello,
    That does not look like expected behavior. Microsoft’s docs clearly state the SMTP Connector is supported for outbound email in Business Central and that the email editor supports adding attachments both manually and from source/default selections, so if all attachments disappear with SMTP in 28.0 while the email still sends successfully, I’d treat it as a likely product issue/regression rather than setup. I couldn’t find an official Learn article that documents “SMTP drops attachments in v28.0” as a known issue, but based on the behavior you described, this is not normal. I’d check the Email Outbox/Sent Items and email telemetry first to confirm whether BC thinks attachments were included, but I wouldn’t expect a functional workaround inside standard setup if the connector is stripping them silently.
