Inventory Value by Receipt Date Report in Business Central

(7) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 352

In previous ERP systems I’ve used, there was a report called Inventory Value by Receipt Date. It allowed me to see how much inventory remained on hand for each receipt date, which helped identify how much of the higher-cost inventory was still in stock. This was especially useful when analyzing gross margins—if margins were low on an item, I could easily see how many units were still left to sell before we begin consuming the lower-cost under FIFO.

Does Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offer a report or tool that provides similar visibility? Specifically, I’m looking for a way to view current inventory quantities broken down by their receipt date or cost layer, so we can better understand what remains in stock at higher cost levels.

I have the same question (0)

When I type "Inventory Valuation" in the search field, none of the results match the screenshot you provided. All of the options—except for the first one—redirect me to Power BI. When I select the first option, I only see an “As of Date” field rather than the Start Date and End Date fields shown in your example.

Could you clarify which specific report I should be accessing, or let me know if there may be a permissions or version difference on my side?

The report you ran that had the As of Date option is the correct one, it's the same report that Yun Zhu recommended. The difference is because your Business Central is a different localization.

Inventory Valuation report provides infromation of cost . If you are storing expected costs where invoicing is not done  , you need to run Expected Cost Boolean

Start date and End Date filters are available in below report Inventory Valuation

Can you confirm which localization you are referring to , I can see start and end date

    Warm Regards

    Hello,

Best place to see remaining quantities by receipt (FIFO layers)
Item Card → Entries → Applied Item Entries / Cost Application
    This shows:
    Each receipt (cost layer)
    Its cost
How much of that layer is still on hand
    FIFO consumption order
This is essentially the same analysis used to understand how much “high-cost” inventory remains.
    Reports that also help
    Inventory Valuation

    Hello,

Business Central doesn’t have a standard “Inventory Value by Receipt Date” report, but similar visibility is available through Inventory Valuation, Item Ledger Entries, and Cost Layers, which track quantities and costs by receipt date under FIFO/LIFO.

You can review remaining inventory by cost layer in the Cost Layers page or drill into Item Ledger and Value Entries for detailed analysis.

For a consolidated view, you’d need a custom report or Power BI dashboard grouping inventory by receipt date and cost layer to identify how much higher-cost stock remains.

    Hello,

Item Ledger Entries Page can help you achieve the report you are looing for.

By applying filters on required columns, line Remaining Quantity , Location , Item category etc.. You can build a view and save it for later use.
