How to update no series on fixed assets

Hello, I have imported 300 fixed assets for a customer, and now I have to change the no series for all of them. How can I update the no series with config package? Or is there another way to do it, then delete all and reimport.

Thank yout in advance!

The fixed asset no. is the primary key on that table so you would need to do the following:

    1. If you don't have any fixed asset ledger entries. Using a configuration packge, select delete all table records and then upload the fixed asset list with new numbering:

    2. Use edit in excel and delete all the lines, publish your changes and reload data.

    3. Use a special add-in such as the data editor tool (Microsoft Marketplace | cloud solutions, AI apps, and agents) or have a developer delete/renumber all records for you.

If you have fixed asset ledger entries this will complicate the approach. You can always manually renumber the records that do have fixed asset ledger entries and then delete and recreate the others. If all fixed assets have acquisition and depreciation entries posted already you may need to consult a partner or get a developer to help renumber those records.

Hey! So yes, the Config Package or Edit in Excel approaches can work, but only if no ledger entries exist and no related records are referencing those assets  otherwise BC will block the update.
If transactions have already been posted against those fixed assets, you’re in trickier territory. In that case, your realistic options are:
âˆ™    AL codeunit that updates the field directly at table level, bypassing standard validation clean and safe if done carefully
âˆ™    Ask yourself if it’s really necessary  once assets are posted, the No. Series is mostly cosmetic at that stage, so depending on your goal there might be a simpler workaround
What are you actually trying to achieve with the change? That might help figure out the best path forward! 😊

Hi, hope the following can give you some hints.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: How to bulk delete data on a list page that includes a Card page (For example, bulk delete items on the Item List page)

    Thanks.

    Hello,
You generally shouldn’t update existing Fixed Asset numbers / No. Series with Config. Package. In BC, the No. Series setup is mainly for new assets going forward, not for retroactively renumbering existing ones. So if these 300 assets were only imported and nothing has been posted or linked to them yet, the clean option is usually to delete them and reimport with the correct numbering. If they already have ledger entries or other links, then renumbering becomes risky and is really a customization / migration correction task, not a normal config package change. Also, if the goal is only to change numbering for future assets, just update the Fixed Assets Setup number series and leave the imported assets as they are.
