Unable to Upload or View Attachments in Business Central

Hello,

I have been experiencing an issue in Business Central for the past three days. When attempting to upload files as attachments in Incoming Document Files on any page (for example, the General Journal), the process fails, and two error pop-up messages are displayed:

  • "File upload failed."

  • "The file could not be uploaded at this time. Please try again later."

***********************************************************

In addition, there is another problem when I try to download or view previously uploaded files in the Incoming Document Files section. In this case, the following error message appears:

  • "An error occurred while trying to display the report."

Could you please advise on how to resolve these issues? Any guidance or support to fix this problem as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same question (2)

What version of BC are you running, and have you recently upgraded your environment? Is it happening even on other attachments in other records, or only on the Incoming documents page?

    Hi,

    Possible Causes & Fixes

    1. Temporary Service Issue (SaaS)
If you are on Business Central Online, this can be a Microsoft service-side issue. Check the Microsoft 365 Service Health Dashboard and try again later. If the issue persists, raise a support ticket via your CSP partner.
    2. File Size or Type Restrictions
      • Business Central SaaS has a file size limit of 350 MB for attachments.
      • Ensure the file type is supported and not blocked by security policies.
    3. Browser or Session Cache
Clear browser cache or try another browser. Sometimes cached sessions cause upload/download failures.
    4. Attachment Storage Issues
If using Azure Blob Storage or custom storage, confirm connectivity and permissions. For on-prem, check Event Viewer for errors.
    5. Report Rendering Error
The message “An error occurred while trying to display the report” often indicates a report viewer or RDLC rendering issue.
      • Try Print → PDF instead of Preview.
      • If all reports fail, it may be a known SaaS bug; escalate to Microsoft Support.

    Recommended Actions

    • Step 1: Test in a sandbox environment to confirm if the issue is environment-specific.
    • Step 2: If the problem persists across environments, log a support request with Microsoft.
Official Docs for Reference: Please mark “Verified” if it helps.
