Changing of Currency Code on PO

Good day,

There's an issue with the currency code in a PO, where there was a prepayment. I did a prepayment credit memo which posted successfully. I'm getting the below message when trying to change the currency code. Assistance needed in understanding the error message.

    You need to Reopen the PO before you can make any changes to it. Click the Reopen button then you'll be able to change the Currency Code.
     
    When you post the prepayment invoice the system changes the status of the PO to released. When a document is released you can't make any changes to it.
