Exclude some bins/zone from MRP

If you have set aside some bins for defective items, is there a way to exclude them when MRP runs? Obviously, I don't want to block the item card as I want to use the 'good' items in manufacturing.
MRP might suggest I need to purchase more of an item to meet demand (if the defective quantity of an item is excluded) but if it includes the defective quantity, MRP would think I have sufficient on-hand inventory.
Use case for a different Location - no SKU?

The only 'optional' variable for an item within a location when running MRP is a forecast. EVERYTHING else is considered regardless of whether you want it to be.

The best way to manage your requirement without any development is to move the segregated stock to another location in BC. You can also use dummy orders to cancel out any inputs you wish to exclude but location segregation tends to be easier to handle.

If you're not physically moving it, it can be useful for your 'virtual' location to reflect the same bin structure as the 'normal' location.

This is not possible out of the box for now. As Guy-JM mentioned, you can move the items to another location or place them on a document, such as a purchase return order, so the system no longer considers them in stock.

One approach is to use a separate location specifically for stock not considered by MRP. For example, you could have a main "A" location and a corresponding “A-defective” location. Items in the defective location would then be excluded from MRP.

As other experts have mentioned, this is not possible according to the standard.
You can contact your local partner to see if customization is possible. Or you could submit this idea to Microsoft.

Agree with previous responses, In standard Business Central, you cannot exclude specific bins or zones from MRP. MRP calculates supply based on location-level inventory, not bin-level quality status.

    Hello,

MRP in Business Central cannot exclude quantities by bin — planning is done by Location only, so any quantity in any bin within the Location is always counted as available, even if it’s defective. Bin blocking, bin types, or rankings only affect warehouse operations, not planning. The only standard and supported way to keep defective stock out of MRP while still using good stock is to move defective items to a separate Location (no SKU required unless you want different replenishment rules). If it’s in another Location, MRP will ignore it; if it’s in the same Location, MRP will always see it.
