Project / Sales Order Confirmation

Hello Experts,
 
I am wondering if what sales contract can be provided to the customer for a project-related order.
If for sales order, we can generate the order confirmation, in Project, there is only a Project Quote in which it doesn't serve as a contract between the two parties. I'm not sure if there is a way to create a Sales Order (just to create an order confirmation) while linking it to the main Project Order.

    Technically you could create a Sales Order and link it to the project, but doing that just to get an order confirmation can create accounting and reporting side effects, especially around revenue and inventory. I’ve seen that cause more issues later.

    What most teams do instead is create a custom document based on the Project Contract using ER or SSRS and treat that as the formal contract/confirmation once approved. It keeps everything within the project module and avoids mixing sales order logic into the process.

    With the standard functionality we can only have Project Quote as a proforma type, Sales Order you need to trigger to get a order confirmation Report.
    May be you can go with a little customization to achieve this.

    You can modify the Project Quote layout to your desired format, such as a Sales Order Confirmation layout.

    Business Central doesn’t have a dedicated “Project Contract” document out of the box—Projects (Jobs) are mainly for planning, posting, and invoicing. If you need a formal contract-style document like an Order Confirmation, the practical approach is to create a Sales Order and link it to the Project using the Project No. on the sales lines; this lets you send the standard Order Confirmation while keeping all revenue tied to the Project. Project Quotes are only estimates and don’t function as contractual documents, so for a proper customer agreement, a linked Sales Order is the clean solution.

    Do not connect Projects to Sales Orders, you will create more issues than value. I recommend Zhu's approach to utilizing the Project Quote report and generating a Project Confirmation report.  This way you can maintain the quote layout and have a confirmation when the Project is accepted.  This doesn't change any base logic within Business Central and should solve your requirement.

    Just wanted to add that Ben and Zhu are correct. Please do not use a sales order as this can create problems. You will have sales orders that then need to be maintained separately from the Projects. This can lead to data entry errors, inconsistencies, more maintenance of records and if you have Sales Orders used for other purposes you will find different processes working over top of each other. Projects are meant to act as a replacement for Quotes and Orders. The simplest approach is what they both mentioned. Create two "Quote" layouts. Switch between them as needed.
     
    What i've also done for clients in the past is just get a developer to add a button in the project card that says "Print Order" that prints a different layout than the quote but uses the quote report layout objects. This is an extremely small customization that a microsoft partner would be able to get done for you.
