Value Entries equal to zero

Hi to everyone,

I am trying to investigate why some value entries are equal to zero in my company.

The only two reasons that came to my mind are the following:

  • Data entry errors: the user made an error at the posting.
  • Donation: I work for an organisation that receives donations.

Is there a way to avoid these situations? What about if I put a standard cost in the item masterdata?

Thanks in advance

Federico

It can be hard to say why this is the case without seeing the data, the item ledger entry type and your inventory setup. The value entries in BC have a many to one relationship with item ledger entries. This means one item ledger entry will derive its cost from many value entry lines.

Microsoft has documented design details for costing and value entries here: Design Details - Inventory Posting - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

The value entries table also has multiple cost/amount fields. If a user posted a Purchase Receipt for a Non-inventory item that would show a cost of 0$.

Some details that can help determine why it's 0$ in value that you could provide:
    1. What kind of item is involved in this transaction (Inventory, Non-inventory)
    2. What kind of document/item ledger entry type is the transaction (Purchase, Receipt, Consumption etc.)
    3. What costing method is being used (FIFO, Average etc.)
    4. Do you have automatic cost posting enabled?
    5. What fields are showing as 0$
