Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with raw material release to warehouse in D365 F&O (SCM / WHS) for production orders, and I can’t understand the behavior.
- Warehouse is WHS-enabled.
- A production BOM line needs 11 units from a specific license plate (LP).
- This LP contains 12 units in total.
- I manually reserve 11 units on that LP (physical reservation).
- InventTrans correctly shows 11 units reserved physically.
Problem
When I release the production order to the warehouse, the work created is only for the remaining quantity, not for the 11 units that were reserved.
Even stranger:
- Right after the work is created, the system suddenly shows the full 12 units as reserved (in the “Available on-hand” view), even though only 11 were reserved on the LP.
- The work is created for 1 unit (the remaining difference).
- If I cancel the work, the reservation goes back to the expected 11 units.
So it seems like WHS is “re-reserving” the entire LP at the work creation stage.
Expected behavior
Work should be generated for the 11 units I manually reserved on the LP.
Actual behavior
- WHS reserves the entire LP (12 units) when generating work.
- Work is created only for the difference (1 unit).
- Cancelling the work restores the original 11-unit reservation.
Question
What WHS configuration, behavior, or hidden mechanism could be causing Dynamics 365 to automatically “correct” the reservation and re-reserve the entire LP during work creation, even when the manual LP reservation is partial and physically valid?
Has anyone faced similar behavior with partial LP reservations in WHS-enabled warehouses for production orders?
Thanks!
