Breakdown of Product - component return to Inventory

Hello
Our company has 2 situations whereby we need to break down products and return the components to inventory.
1. We buy used products externally and break them down into individual components and want to put them back into inventory.
2. We have returns from our manufacturing process (returns from customers) that we want to disassemble and put back into inventory.

At present, what we do is simply add an item journal with a positive adjustment to add components back to inventory in business central (exploding the BOM where relevant). But it seems quite manual, and we're looking for a more optimal way. Any suggestions or ISVs that could be helpful?

    Hello,

Use Assembly Disassembly Orders. They automatically break items into components and return them to inventory. No journals, no ISV needed.

There is no such functionality as Assembly Disassembly Orders in business central.

There are quite a few add-ons that handle this. I have not personally used any so I can't recommend any, but if you search for disassembly or disassemble, you should see several results. For example - Browse Apps | Microsoft Marketplace

You can also use standard functionality in the Item Journal. Each item’s disassembly BOM can be saved as a standard journal, so when you need to populate the journal, it is just a few clicks to post it. This is a pretty easy and free solution that doesn't require paying for and learning an ISV.
