How to Access and Configure the New Authentication Methods Policy in Microsoft Entra ID?

While reviewing recent updates, I noticed an important change: Microsoft will retire legacy MFA and SSPR policies in Microsoft Entra ID on September 30, 2025.
After this date, these legacy settings will no longer function. Organizations must migrate to the unified Authentication Methods policy to ensure continued functionality.

Current Status
  • I attempted to review the Entra settings, but I was unable to access them using my account. Even with an admin user, the settings were not accessible.
  • This may indicate that additional roles or permissions are required to configure and test the new Authentication Methods policy.
Next Steps

How to Access and Configure the New Authentication Methods Policy in Microsoft Entra ID?
    Hi Nour,

Thanks for raising this important topic. Since the legacy MFA and SSPR policies in Microsoft Entra ID will be retired on September 30, 2025, it's essential to ensure your organization transitions to the unified Authentication Methods policy in time.

If you're unable to access the Authentication Methods settings—even with an admin account—it’s likely due to missing roles. To manage and configure these settings, the account must have one of the following roles assigned:

    - **Global Administrator**
    - **Authentication Policy Administrator**
    - **Privileged Authentication Administrator**

You can verify and assign these roles via the **Microsoft Entra admin center** under **Roles and administrators**.

Once the correct role is assigned, you should be able to access the Authentication Methods policy via:
**Microsoft Entra admin center > Protection > Authentication methods > Policies**

For a detailed walkthrough, I recommend reviewing the official Microsoft documentation here and the video guide you mentioned, which is quite helpful.

Please let me know if this resolves your issue by marking the response as helpful.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Daniele
