I am using BUSINESS CENTRAL and i am facing the below mentioned issue.
I have more than 1500 semi finished and raw materials items.
Entries have been posted in all these item numbers.
Now i want to incorporate BATCH (lot) details in all these items. But the system is not allowing me to do the same stating that "there is already an open entries in the item ledger entries".
Please suggest how should i incorporate the batch details in all these existing items.
Also let me know other alternatives which can be used for the same.
You cannot enable Lot (Batch) tracking on items that already have open Item Ledger Entries — Business Central blocks it by design to protect traceability; there’s no way to retroactively apply lot numbers to existing entries. The correct approach is to first bring inventory to zero (via adjustments/consumption), then assign the Item Tracking Code (Lot Specific Tracking), and finally re-enter stock using positive adjustments with lot numbers; alternatively, you can activate lot tracking only for future transactions or create new item numbers for lot-controlled inventory, but existing open entries cannot be converted automatically.
