Adjusting Inventory at the Item Card level - with location codes

Hello everyone,

We are looking to find ways to adjust inventory without having to go through the Item Journals (user roles & permissions concern).
I found this screenshot online where the "Adjust Inventory" button at the Item Card level will allow you to choose the Location Code and the New Inventory.

Our "Adjust Inventory" view in our test-sandbox environment looks like the following:

After doing some research online, it seems like if the "Bin Mandatory" is toggled on for any location, this is the default "Adjust Inventory" view we would get.
I was also unable to turn off "Bin Mandatory" at the Location Card level as an error message pops up, stating that I have "Warehouse Activity" that exists.

Please let me know what would be the proper way to approach this situation.
Should warehouse managers, operations managers, and other upper-level users be allows to simply utilize the item journals?
Should "Bin Mandatory" be toggled off to allow for simpler inventory adjustments?

Thank you for your time,
Dalton

This will only work when you don't have any additional flags enabled on the location card unlike your case wherein we have Bin mandatory.
If Location setup is simple then it's the easiest way out to adjust inventory.

You can only use the Adjust Inventory function on the Item List or Item Card for locations that don’t use bins.

For locations where bins are mandatory, you must adjust inventory using Item Journals, Inventory Documents, or Warehouse Item Journals instead.

This is because locations with bins are configured to track inventory at the bin level, while the Adjust Inventory function only adjusts quantities at the location level. Since you need to specify which bin the inventory is being added to or removed from, this function can’t be used in those locations.

You also shouldn’t disable bins just to use the Adjust Inventory function, unless your company has decided to stop using bin tracking altogether.

The adjust inventory window is just using positive and negative adjustments to change inventory levels. If Bins are mandatory as mentioned by other replies then you can't adjust the inventory levels. But you can easily perform an adjustment by opening the Item Journal and then posting a positive adjustment for that location and bin. It's only a few extra steps but you will end up with the same results.

    Hello,

You’re correct, when Bin Mandatory is ON, Business Central hides the simple Adjust Inventory window. You must adjust through Warehouse Item Journals to keep bin-level accuracy.
✅ Best practice: keep Bin Mandatory enabled and let managers use Warehouse Item Journals (with limited permissions).
❌ Don’t turn Bin Mandatory off, it breaks warehouse integrity.

    Hello,

When Bin Mandatory is enabled for a location, Business Central enforces warehouse processes, so the simple “Adjust Inventory” option on the Item Card is replaced by a detailed view.

You cannot disable Bin Mandatory if warehouse activities exist, and turning it off is not recommended because it compromises data integrity.

The best approach is to keep Bin Mandatory on and allow authorized users (e.g., warehouse or operations managers) to use Item Journals or create a controlled adjustment process via customization or automation, rather than bypassing warehouse logic for convenience.

    Hi,

when Bin Mandatory is enabled, the “Adjust Inventory” page switches to a warehouse-driven view because adjustments must respect bin-level tracking. If warehouse activities exist, you cannot disable Bin Mandatory without clearing those activities.

Do not disable Bin Mandatory if warehouse processes are active. The proper approach is either granting controlled access to Item Journals or building a simplified adjustment tool that posts journals in the background.

    Thanks
    Rishabh
