I have a customer with a tenant in Europe. Can I use the transfer environment functionality in the admin centre to move the tenant to a South African tenant? If not, what are my options?

That souldn't be an issue but all localizations and environment setup will still be the same as all environment settings are carried over.

In Microsoft Power Platform:

Environment transfer only works within the same tenant

Data residency (region) is fixed at environment creation

You cannot move environments across regions or tenants

No mate, You can’t use the Transfer Environment feature in the Business Central Admin to move a tenant from one region to another. This feature is only designed for transfers within the same tenant and region.

Hii there as per requirement. For same tanent can do but there is many things to take care as data set is resides in another region will make data load speed and many more issues.

So it's not advisable to change region.

Hello,

Nom Transfer environment can move a Business Central environment to another Microsoft Entra tenant, but it cannot change the environment’s localization or Azure region, and Microsoft states those stay the same during the move, so you can’t use it to turn a Europe-hosted environment into a South Africa-hosted one; if the goal is South African data residency/localization, the normal option is to create a new ZA environment and migrate data/apps into it, or run a multi-geo setup by adding a South Africa-localized environment alongside the existing Europe one, since BC allows environments in different geographies regardless of the tenant home geo.

Environment Transfer does not support moving tenants across different regions (Europe → South Africa). It only works within the same geography.

For Cross-region scenarios, the available options are: Create a new environment in the target regionMigrate data using Configuration Packages / RapidStart Or use a partner-assisted data migration (extensions/APIs)

So unfortunately, a direct transfer isn’t possible — it requires a migration approach instead.
