I hope I am on the correct forum. I have a customer that uses Dynamics. They want to export numbers out of our ERP to import in so they can do their financials in Dynamics. Is there a template format that I can follow to write a custom report for them to use so they don't have to do any cutting and pasting or move/add columns? Or just a list of the columns and definitions to I get it right the first time?
There isn't a default custom report in BC. If the customer is just loading journal entries they can load data in a few different ways but it would all be based on copying and pasting. I'd recommend they test or work with a partner to determine the best approach.
1. Simply just copy and paste data into BC: Copy and paste data FAQ - Business Central | Microsoft Learn - You can go into a general journal in BC, copy a line and paste it in excel. Then you can use that as a "template" to paste data back into BC.
3. Use a configuration package for that relevant table to import data. You would still need to copy data into the configuration package format but you can pick the order of the columns and also determine what columns to use.
Beyond these 3 methods there is also the option to build a custom import/XMLport but that would need to be done by a developer. This would be the automated approach but you would have to work with a BC partner/developer to have this work done.
