How to add barcodes in Business Central

For the item cards, I see there's a GTIN field which seems to be the field use to add the item barcodes. I see some documentation suggests that the item reference list is also used to link barcodes to items. With this information, I have a few questions.

Is the correct way to add barcode to the Items?
How to add this field to the columns in the purchase Order, Sales order or transfer order lines (I tried to add it using designer but I'm not seeing the field)
Would the barcodes added here work when using mobile scanning devices on the mobile app
How to link this barcode field (assume it is the correct field) to products uploaded to Shopify from Business Central using the connector

1. You just have to add the GTIN and then you can print labels from BC for items under Reports > Print Label:

2. I don't believe GTIN is an available field in those pages as I could not find them in that table. You would have to get a developer to add them to the lines for the pages and tables you want to include them in.

3. The barcodes work in the BC app, you have to follow the steps here for setup and testing: Barcode scanning in mobile app - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

4. From the reference material for shopify you need to add an item reference into BC for that barcode number: Synchronize items and inventory - Business Central | Microsoft Learn - this is a different field than the GTIN.

A lot of Business Central customers opt to go with a separate barcoding/warehousing solution. There are a lot of different barcoding solutions out there, some are even free with limited features. The out of the box barcoding is quite limited and the BC app is in my experience not great for warehousing functions.
