Business Central – Sales Order Header Location Blank but Lines Have Different Locations

(6) ShareShare

Hello Expert,

In Business Central, I created a Sales Order where the Location Code on the Sales Header is blank.

Then I added two Sales Lines with different item locations, for example:

Item Location
A Mumbai
B Pune

Is this scenario supported in Business Central based on standard IN localization? Does it allow posting?

If yes, what setup is required to allow different locations on Sales Lines when the Sales Header Location is blank?

I have the same question (0)

    Yes it's all accepted.
Business central allows to sell item's from different location on the same Sales Order.
There's no special setup needed for this until and unless you have different location configuration enabled like advance warehouse or bin mandatory and so on. In this case you simply need to respect the prerequisites.
Apart from this no issue on post even if you have 10 different locations on Sales Order Lines.

Yes, it's allowed. The only set up required is creating a sales order like you did.

    Hello,

    Yes, it’s supported.
You can leave the Sales Header location blank and use different locations on each Sales Line. Posting works fine.

    Required setup:
Nothing special — just make sure Inventory Setup → Location Mandatory = OFF (or keep it ON but ensure each line has its own location).

IN localization does not block this.

    Hi,

Yes this scenario is supported in Business Central and doesn't require as such any setups.

When you have Location set in the Sales Header, and you create new sales lines, then the location generally flows from the header to lines automatically. Even after that you can easily change the location per line as per your requirements.

Hi, Yes, there's no control. Instead, if you want to limit it, it needs to be customized.
And, hope the following can give you some hints.

    Thanks.

Is there any impact on GST calculation?

    Hi,

Yes, for IN Localization the GST is calculated only if there is a location code in the line level, else the tax engine won't get triggered and no GST will be calculated.

For more information on GST, you can check this youtube video - Overview of GST Tax Engine in D365 Business Central (IN) | | Session - 05 - YouTube

If you only want to see the impact of Location Code on Line Level, you can watch the video from 47:09 time stamp.
