What is the reason why document number does not appear and payment method is also blank

Can you provide reason why document number does not appear in general journal. Also the payment method show "Paypal" as the only option? How to fix this.

Document no does not appear in General Journal if No Series setup is not done

Check Setup and no series in Gen Journal Batch

This is payment Method

Payment Terms appear in General Journal

In General Journal we have Payment Terms , hence Paypal is not visible in JV . You need to add custom field and acheive this

1. Why Document No. does not appear in General Journal

Reason: Your General Journal Template or Batch is missing the No. Series or Posting No. Series setup. If neither is defined, Business Central does not auto‑populate the Document No. and the field may appear blank until you manually enter it.

Fix: Go to: General Journal Templates / Batches → Set No. Series and/or Posting No. Series.

For automatic number assignment → fill No. Series.

For controlled/traceable posting → fill Posting No. Series.

2. Why Payment Method shows only “PayPal”

Reason: The PayPal Payments Standard extension is enabled, and no other Payment Methods are created in the system. Therefore, Business Central shows only “PayPal” as an available option.

Fix: Create additional payment methods:

Search Payment Methods

Click New

Add methods like BANK, CASH, CARD, etc.

Hello,

The Document No. is missing in the General Journal because the journal template has no No. Series, you’re using a Recurring Journal (field hidden by design), or the field is hidden by personalization; fix it by assigning a No. Series and checking page personalization. The Payment Method = PayPal only happens because it’s the only active (unblocked) payment method in setup; fix it by creating or unblocking additional Payment Method Codes.

Hi,

In Business Central, the document number may not appear in the General Journal because the No. Series is not assigned or the “No. Series” field is hidden or locked on the journal batch, or the journal template/batch is configured to assign numbers only at posting rather than during entry.

The Payment Method showing only “PayPal” indicates that either only one Payment Method Code is defined, or the journal is filtered by Bal. Account Type = Bank Account and only the PayPal bank account has an associated payment method, or personalization/security filters are limiting visible values.
