Management Reporter / Report Designer How to Reference Column IF

I have a report with a column definition that spans hundreds of columns.  I have a few hundred variance columns that use the simple CALC of column - column that all work except one.  The one that doesn't work has the formula IF-TA because it thinks I'm trying to use an IF statement.  I've tried @IF-TA and @IF-@TA and it still returns an error.  How do I reference column "IF"?

you need to enclose in brackets []
using it with calc would be best option
    CALC([IF] - [TA])

I tried the syntax in the attached two pictures, but neither worked.  Is there a version difference or some other constraint?
