Can the default fields shown in “Edit in Excel” for journals be customized?

Hi everyone,

When using Edit in Excel with journals in Business Central, the system exports a predefined set of fields. Additional fields (such as extra shortcut dimensions or any other fields) can be added manually by opening the Design pane in the Excel add‑in and selecting them from the data source.

My question is:

Is there any way to configure or save a default field layout so that every time we use “Edit in Excel” those additional fields are included automatically?

Or do we always have to open the Design pane and add the fields manually each time?

Thanks!

    Hi There,

If you want to make those fields permanent, you can get your MS partner / developer to add them as part of your customization extension so those fields are always there.

    Hope it helps.

These fields will not appear as those feilds are dynamic varibles in page level and not at table level . If Shortcut dimensions are defined then it appears in page else not . The feilds which are table level only those feilds will come in edit in excel feature .

In that case you need to create fields in table then it will allow for edit in excel as columns

    Hope this clarifies

When you make changes to the excel file you can save it and re-use it next time. You don't have to click on Edit in Excel and download a new file every time. You can re-use the file that you've already edited to display the fields you'd like to see.

    Hello,
Business Central doesn’t support saving a default field layout for Edit in Excel, so any extra fields (like additional shortcut dimensions) must normally be added manually via the Design pane each time. The practical workaround is to design the layout once, then save the Excel file as a template and reuse it with Refresh, since the layout is stored inside the Excel file itself. If you need it fully automated, the only real solution is creating a custom page/API that exposes the required fields and using Edit in Excel from that page. Out of the box, there’s no global setting to persist a default Excel layout.
