Deferral

Hi Community,

Is there a way to create a deferral for Item where the accounts for SO and PO deferral is linked to an Item? As per checking in the system, only one deferral template can be tagged on the Item Card, and the deferral template can be mapped to a single GL account only.

Goal is to create a Sales Order and Purchase Order with the same Item and the deferral will be automatically populated in SO/PO Lines. The SO will be in deferred revenue and revenue accounts whereas the PO will be in deferred expense and expense accounts upon posting.

Thank you!
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Yes, you are right. There is only 1 deferral template in the item card where it will be used for both Sales and Purchase documents.

If you want to have a separate deferral template for Sales and Purchase, you may need to customize it by subscribing to OnInitDeferralCodeOnBeforeUpdateDeferralCode.

    Hello,
For your deferral question: standard Business Central doesn’t support using the same Item with two different automatic deferral setups for Sales and Purchase; the Item Card only has one Default Deferral Template, and when you enter the item on a sales or purchase line, BC fills the Deferral Code from that single template, so it won’t automatically switch between deferred revenue/revenue on sales and deferred expense/expense on purchases just because the document type changed. The practical options are: (1) use the same template if only the schedule is the same and let sales/purchase posting setup drive different accounts, (2) use separate items, or (3) do a small customization to assign a different deferral code on Sales Line vs Purchase Line.
    Regards,
