User Setup Error

Posted on by 290

We have GP 2010 SQL 2008.

When I go to add a new User under User Setup, I am able to put in all the user information. When I go to save the new user I am getting and error msg "The creation of the login failed for an unknown reason. Contact your SQL Server Administrator for assistance.

Do anyone have any idea why I am getting this error? I am getting this error when  Iog in as SA and DYNSA. Below is the error screen I am getting.

Thanks in advance.
Kevin

    Re: User Setup Error

Yes I did make the password complex. If the password is not complex it will tell you the password does not meet the system requirements. No user exist by the name in Dynamics GP or any Production DB.

    Re: User Setup Error

Were your databases copied from another server? This sounds like the User ID is attached to the database but does not exist in GP. Please go into SSMS and look at security for both Dynamcs and company. If this user ID exists on these databases delete them from the databases and try again. Also, note the the GP User ID cannot match their Windows credentials ID. So if for any reason you have given the domain user access to these databases you will need to use a different name in GP.

The db was not copy it is a production db on production server. I have looked in SSMS and the User ID is not attached to any of the databases. The user window credentials ID is not the same as the GP User ID.

Do you see this user ID just under security for this instance of SQL?

You could also try to unclick the option to Enforce Password Requirements just to see if the SQL account gets created. Are you logged into GP as 'sa' as you are trying this?

    Re: User Setup Error

The User ID is NOT under security for the instance of SQL.

Yes I am log in as SA.

I will try to unclick the enforce password requirements and see if that helps.

    Re: User Setup Error

    Hi,

I've seen this error many times, here's what I've done to make it go away.

First, look at 'Security Logins' in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to see if the user has a sql Login. Then, look at each database uder 'Security' to see if the user exists there. If you delete the user from SQL as well as the databases, you should be able to add them when you bring the user up in User Maintenance.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Re: User Setup Error

I have looked in each database under security and there is no login for the new user I was trying to add.

    Any other suggestiion?

    Thanks

    Re: User Setup Error

Can you do this on the server? I am wondering if the SQL client you are using is causing this problem. So you cannot add any users, correct?

    Re: User Setup Error

Me nor the Accounting Manager can not setup any user in GP via the User Setup Window.
