Assembly-to-Policies & WMS

Greetings to all of you.

THE CASE

A customer of ours perform printing/logo placement , on clothes, for their customers.

So for example, they have an item code, X, which is a default-standard T-Shirt.

For each customer of theirs, they create a dedicated item code to refer to the logo of this exact customer.
So , if we have Customer A,B,C, then we will have the item codes LOGO-A,LOGO-B,LOGO-C as well.

And then we also have dedicated item codes for the finished, assembled item. So basically a t-shirt X with LOGO-A has a unique item code lets say XA, then XB for customer B and XC for customer C.

So when it comes to normal assembly consumption/output entries with a basic WMS setup, we just need to move the components to a specific bin, then consume item X and item LOGO-A and output the item XA which this is the one that is going to be inserted on the sales order lines. Lastly we just need to move the output quantity from the default assembly output bin, to the shipping bin.

Based on what i describe above, firstly i tried to test the assembly-to-order policy. But ,the GAP that i have identified between system logic and our customer logic is that the assembled item quantities , are not going to be shipped immediatly. They might need to be put-away on long-term bins and stay there for months.

So, system wise, i need to link a sales order with an assembly order, BUT at the same time i need to post the consumption/outputs of this assembly order without posting a warehouse shipment(my customer has a basic warehouse configuration, not a DP&PA). At the moment, the system does not allow me to do any direct posting in the assembly order and those postings are being performed automatically only when i post the warehouse shipment which is linked to the sales order.

Is it possible to override this logic? I also tried to use the assembly-to-stock policy but i cant figure out, if i use this policy, how can i have a strong link-reservation between the sales order and the assembly order. This requirement is essential for our customer's business since as i explained earlier, those assembled items are dedicated/customised for each brand-customer.

Thank you in advance for your time and guidance!

Easy change.  Switch the Assembly Policy to "Assemble-to-Stock".  Switch the Reordering Policy to "Order".

Use the Planning Worksheet to calculate what products to make, which will be suggesting Assembly Orders with a hard reservation to the Sales Demand.

The Assembly Orders will be standalone, meaning you process the consumption and output directly on the Assembly Order.  The Output will be stored in Inventory, either Assembly Output Bin or moved to actual Warehouse Bin(s).  Then you will use the Sales Order to ship product or trigger warehouse pick/ship process.

No changes are required on the Assembly BOM, just the finished good Assembly Policy and the Reordering Policy.

Please always test these changes in a Sandbox environment to ensure it meets your needs.
