How to add Unit price Discount in Business central

(5) ShareShare

Dear Members,

In Business Central, I have a sales line with a Unit Price = 4 and Quantity = 200, which gives a total of 800.I need to apply a unit price discount of 0.20 per unit, so the effective unit price becomes 3.80, and the line amount becomes 760.

However, when I use the standard Line Discount % / Line Discount Amount, Business Central shows the discount as a total line discount of 40, not as a per-unit discount.

My requirement is:

  • Unit Price should still display as 4

  • A separate column should show the unit discount (0.20 per unit)

  • Line amount should calculate as 760.

Is there any standard way in Business Central to display unit-level discount separately?

Thanks in advance,
Sneha

    Hello,

Business Central supports only line-level discounts, not unit-level discounts. The Line Discount Amount is always stored and shown as a total for the line, and there is no standard field to display a per-unit discount (like 0.20 per unit). If you need a separate “Unit Discount” column while keeping Unit Price = 4 and Line Amount = 760, this requires a custom calculated field (Line Discount Amount ÷ Quantity). There is no out-of-the-box way to do this.

Business Central does not support unit-level discount display in standard functionality. Discounts are always applied at line level. To show a separate unit discount column, customization is required.

In Business Central, unit-level discounts (e.g., 0.20 per unit) are not available out-of-the-box. The system only supports line-level discounts (Line Discount % / Line Discount Amount), which are stored and shown as a total for the line.

If you need to keep Unit Price = 4, show a separate “Unit Discount” column (0.20 per unit), and have Line Amount = 760, this can be achieved via a small customization: we add a calculated field that displays the per‑unit discount based on the line discount and quantity.

There's no standard way to display it like that. But do you need to show this in Business Central itself or in the sales order or invoice report that you print? If you need to show this in the report then you can easily customize the report to break down the discount like that.

There is no standard feature in Business Central to support unit-level discounts. The system supports line-level discounts, which are applied on the line amount.

By design, Business Central also considers any invoice-level discount and distributes it across all lines using a defined calculation formula, in addition to the line discount.

To meet this requirement, customization is required by introducing a new field and implementing the above calculation logic, ensuring it works correctly across all applicable scenarios.

    Hi,

In standard Business Central, there is no built-in column for “Unit Discount” on sales lines.BC calculates discount at the line level, not per unit. The discount amount shown (40) is the total for the entire quantity (200 × 0.20).To show unit-level discount (0.20) as a separate column, there is no standard field. This requires customisation to display “Unit Discount” on the Sales Line page/report.You can calculate it easily (Line Discount Amount ÷ Quantity) but need a custom field or report column to show it.

As far as I know, there's no standard way to do this, but you could try customizing it.
Alternatively, you could submit this idea to Microsoft.
