General Journal Line Approval Workflow – “Imposed Restriction” with Multiple Approvers

Hi everyone, I’m facing an issue while setting up the General Journal Line Approval Workflow (MS-GJLAPW-01).

The workflow works correctly when there is only one approver in the workflow user group. However, when there are two approvers in the group (both with Sequence = 1), once either approver approves the workflow, the journal line status changes to “Imposed Restriction”.

Has anyone encountered this before, or can advise whether this is expected behavior?

Thanks.

    Hi,

This is standard behavior, if you setup standard workflow with workflow user group, where multiple users are assigned same level, the workflow only goes forward if all of the users with same level approves the record. That is the reason your General Journal line is still restricted. You need to get the approval of other user as well to get the record released.

For future you need to change some setup in your workflow to allow a single approver to approve and the workflow moves forward. You can check the setup here - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XWXbfOvAKZ0.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.

In the event “An approval request is approved”, change the response by deleting Remove Restriction and then add the same action again. This may fix the issue, as I also encountered the same problem.

    Hello,
when multiple approvers share the same Sequence = 1, Business Central treats them as parallel approvers but removes the record restriction after the first approval, not after all approvers respond, because the standard workflow does not support “all must approve” logic for parallel approvals; to avoid this, you must use sequential approvals (different sequence numbers) or implement custom approval handling.
