Create a warehouse pick related to a released production order

Hello everyone,
Recently, I had trouble while trying to create a warehouse pick from a production order.

The environment was new, so I did tasks like setting up locations, bins, articles, production BOMs...
When I try to create a warehouse pick from a released production order, I get this error:

Is there someone who could guide me through all the steps to make it work?
many thanks.

Kind regards,
Matteo

    Hello Matteo,
This message normally means BC found no component quantity that can be picked for that production order. Check these points first: the production order must be Released, components must have Remaining Quantity > 0, the component flushing method must be eligible for warehouse pick, typically Manual / Pick + Forward / Pick + Backward, there must be inventory in a pickable bin at location M01, and the component line bin should point to the correct To-Production / shop floor bin, not the same bin you are picking from. Also, if your location uses advanced warehousing, enable Show Summary when creating the pick; it will show why BC excluded the component, for example no pickable quantity, blocked/dedicated bin, already picked, wrong bin setup, or item tracking issue.

this error is usually caused by missing warehouse setup on either the location, bins, or the production components.
Here is a complete checklist that normally resolves the issue when creating a Warehouse Pick for a Released Production Order in Business Central:

    1. Verify the Production Order Status
    The production order must be:
    • Released
    • Not Finished
    • Components must still have Remaining Quantity > 0
    Open:
Released Production Order → Lines → Components
Check that quantities still need to be consumed.

    2. Check the Component Flushing Method
Warehouse picks are only created for components that require warehouse handling.
    For each component item:
    Item Card → Manufacturing FastTab
Use one of these flushing methods:
    • Manual
    • Pick + Forward
    • Pick + Backward
    Avoid:
    • Forward
    • Backward
    Those methods bypass warehouse picking.

    3. Verify Location Setup
Open the location card (example: M01):
    Locations → M01
    For advanced warehousing, verify:
    Warehouse
    • Require Pick = Yes
    • Bin Mandatory = Yes
    Production
    • To-Production Bin Code = valid production bin
    • Open Shop Floor Bin Code = optional but recommended
    • From-Production Bin Code = valid output bin

    4. Verify Inventory Exists in a Pickable Bin
The components must exist in a bin that is allowed for picking.
    Check:
    Item → Bin Contents
    Make sure:
    • Inventory is available
    • Bin is not blocked
    • Bin type allows Picks
    • Quantity is not already reserved/picked
    Typical setup:
    Bin Bin Type
    PICK-01 Pick
    PROD-01 To-Production
Do NOT store stock only in the production bin.

    5. Check the Component Bin Code
    On the production component line:
    Released Production Order → Components
The Bin Code should normally be the To-Production Bin.
    BC will:
    • Pick FROM storage/pick bins
    • Move TO the production bin
If both are the same bin, BC may find nothing to pick.

    6. Create the Warehouse Pick Correctly
    Go to:
Released Production Order → Actions → Warehouse → Create Pick
    Enable:
    • Show Summary
This is extremely useful because BC will explain exactly why lines are skipped.
    Common messages include:
    • Nothing to handle
    • No pickable quantity
    • Bin blocked
    • Item already picked
    • Dedicated bin restriction
    • Item tracking missing

    7. Check Item Tracking (If Used)
    If the component uses:
    • Lot numbers
    • Serial numbers
Then inventory must already have valid tracking assigned.
Otherwise BC may refuse pick creation.

    8. Test with a Simple Scenario
If still blocked, create a very small test:
    Example
    • 1 location
    • 2 bins:
      • PICK
      • PROD
    • 1 purchased item
    • Manual flushing
    • Positive inventory in PICK bin
    Then:
    1. Create Released Production Order
    2. Refresh Production Order
    3. Create Warehouse Pick
    This helps isolate setup issues.

Most often, the root cause is one of these:
    • Components use Forward/Backward flushing
    • Inventory is only in the production bin
    • No pickable bin exists
    • To-Production Bin setup is incorrect
The “Show Summary” option usually identifies the exact reason immediately.
