Hi John,
Yes, this is entirely possible without using Assemble-to-Order.
You need to set the Assembly Policy to Assemble-to-Stock and the Replenishment System to Assembly on the Item Card.
To control how the orders are generated, adjust the Reordering Policy:
Set it to Order if you want one Assembly Order strictly linked to each Sales Order (1:1).
Set it to Lot-for-Lot if you prefer consolidation (grouping demand into fewer Assembly Orders).
Then, run the Planning Worksheet. It picks up the Sales Order demand and proposes Assembly Orders, which can be processed and posted independently from the Sales Orders.
For visibility of which Sales Orders drive the demand, use Order Tracking on the item (ensure the Order Tracking Policy is set to "Tracking Only" or "Tracking & Action Msg.").
So yes, the Planning Worksheet covers this scenario perfectly without needing the strict Assemble-to-Order link.
