Batch Traceability Challenges in Silos with Mixed Finished Products – D365FO Best Practices?

I'm supporting a chemical industry client who needs to maintain end-to-end batch traceability, from finished products back to raw materials.

The main challenge is how finished products are managed in silos. These silos are filled with multiple batches, and only partial quantities are issued during sales. For example:

Silo initially contains Batch A and Batch B → merged as Batch C.

A portion of Batch C is sold.

Then Batch D is added → resulting in Batch E, which now includes remnants of A, B, C and D.

This creates a complex traceability chain where each new batch is a composite of previous ones, and partial withdrawals further complicate tracking.

I’ve considered using batch merging in D365FO, but it doesn’t fully solve the issue, especially when trying to trace back to raw materials with precision.

Has anyone implemented a robust solution for this in D365FO?

Any insights, especially from real-world implementations, would be greatly appreciated!
