How to validate user-entered location against Location Profile without auto-selection in D365 FO?

Question Description
In D365 Finance and Operations (Advanced Warehouse Management)and PO workorder type, I want to restrict the allowed locations using a Location Profile, but I do not want the system to automatically select a destination location.
Requirement:
  • A Location Profile is configured and used in a Put Location Directive
  • The location field on the mobile device should be blank
  • The user must manually enter or scan the destination location
  • The system should:
    • Accept the location if it belongs to the Location Profile
    • Throw an error if the location is outside the Location Profile
  • My current setup
Questions:
  • Is it possible in standard D365 FO to use a Location Profile only for validation, not for auto-directing a location?
  • Is there any setup or parameter to prevent location while user select other location in mobile device?

    Hi Shubham,

Can you tell the background of the requirement? Location directives are used to determine the correct location when warehouse work is generated. Users can override the location with the correct settings. Why do you need to have an empty location? This is against the idea of automating warehouse work.

The requirement is that we have multiple receiving locations, so we have mapped a virtual location as the default during registration. After registration, the PO work order should be generated from the virtual location to a blank destination location.

During work order execution, the user should manually enter the destination location based on where the material needs to be received. However, the system must restrict the selectable locations by using a location profile, so that users can enter only the authorized receiving locations defined in that profile. The system should not allow selection of any location outside the mapped receiving location profile.

    Hello Shubham,

I believe the only option to block a location outside the selected location profile is via the function "Input blocked".

However, the disadvantage is that it will be applied to all movement processes, for example also for an inventory movement.

A validation via the location profile is to my best knowledge not possible. You might consider to raise an idea on ideas portal. Link to the ideas portal: https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/

    Hi,

There is one option which can be used

My test location 01010101 belongs to Location profile - Racking and has location type - Grains

1 - Define location directive for put to filter location profile (Racking) you want
2 - In the work template for the put line work class define the 'Valid put location type" as the location type (Grains) which you want to validate
3 - Now while receiving I will ask users to always use 'Override location' option to determine the location they want to move
4 - In case user after selecting override location selects a location which belongs to another location type which is not grains system will throw an error

This is nearest you can get to your requirement. Apart from this there is no other option and what you want to achieve is not possible to be configured exactly which is that put locations comes as blank and when user attempts to scan a location system runs a validation on the user update.
