Non-Inventory Stocked Service Items to a BOM

Hi,

In D365 F&O, I am trying to add a non inventory stocked service item to a BOM line. We would like to use a service item as a Labor, overhead or consumable. We don't want to inventory but we want to capture it's cost implications on a BOM.

For our business we don't want to use the routes that's why we would like to add the non inventory items to the BOM's to calculate the cost.

I started the configuration, first I created a service item with Item Model Group "Stocked" and Storage Dimension group with "active" site and warehouse (Unfortunately, I am not able to uncheck them). When I hit save on the item, I am getting this error "It's not allowed to set warehouse management information for items that do not use ware house management processes". Please help me to solve. Thank you

    Hi Yamini,

Can you share what exact settings you have on the item model group and the storage dimension? Maybe you can share screenshots of the configuration?

    Hello,

When you added the “Non-WMS” storage dimension group to the service item and clicked Save, did you receive this error message?

In the standard system, with your current storage dimension group and item model group is assigned, it typically does not cause issues. Even for a service item, you can select a storage dimension group that is warehouse-enabled.

When the item is created, the storage dimension field is usually grayed out. Are you assigning the storage dimension group from the Dimension groups?

Generally, this issue occurs when you try to use items or service items that are not supported for warehouse management (WMS) processes. If such items are used in warehouse-related process, the system throws this error message.

Could you please confirm whether this is the new item or existing item?

This is quite an unusual error message. As a troubleshooting step, I suggest creating a new storage dimension group and assigning it to the new item to eliminate any potential legacy or configuration conflicts.

    , Thank you. I created multiple items;
case1: I created an item without assigning a model group or dimension group, when I hit save, the error appeared.
case2: I selected both groups and clicked save, the error appeared.

Right, when the item created the storage dimension group field is grayed out and I click product -> setup -> selected the storage dimension group.

In our system, we haven't has any non inventory items until now, so I began creating new ones. Even when I try to update or remove the storage dimension group on existing items, I encounter various errors.

Thank you, I created a new item model group, storage dimension group and items, but still encountering the same error.

I just wanted to understand whether core dynamics is preventing us from creating service items as non inventory items,  or if there is a any setup issue causing these errors. If any one has encountered the same error. please share the insights and help me to resolve this.

I truly appreciate your support. Thank you very much.

The standard system functionality supports creating service items as non-inventory items. Based on your description, it seems there may be a customization that limits item creation to warehouse management enabled items.

I would recommend to engage your technical team and debug this error?
