I would like assistance with migrating inventory quantities from NAV to Business Central.

    Before answering, I have a few clarification:-

     
    • Have you migrated the data from NAV to Business Central, or was it only an application/code upgrade?

    • You can use the Item Journal to post opening balances. However, if item tracking is enabled, you’ll need to account for that when using the journal along with the Location Code.

    • Please also confirm whether the GL balances for inventory have already been uploaded (i.e., the Chart of Accounts reflects inventory balances). Based on that, you can decide whether to use the Inventory Adjustment Account.

    Migration of inventory from NAV to BC
    You'd treat it like uploading opening balances from any other accounting/erp system. You'd use the item journal to post a positive adjustment to load the inventory quantity and value to the inventory subledger. You can temporarily change the posting groups so this entry in the G/L only posts an in and out without any net affect, because the G/L Balances are loaded when you load the trial balance.
     
    Also, since its NAV, you can do a migration to BC where all your NAV data is migrated to BC without doing it manually. Is there a reason your company is not doing it this way?
