Sales to Projects

Is there any way to transfer lines from sales quotes to Projects on Business Central?
We generate quotes in Sales via the CRM module but in many occasions in order to fulfill the request it needs to be transferred to a project. We don't want to have to create a project Quote and go through that methodology because that process doesn't work for us. We also have a couple of customizations on the sales side of things so just thinking out of the box what could we do with lines from a sales quote to transfer lines to a new/existing project. Is customization the only option?
I have the same question (0)

I don’t think there’s anything out of the box. By default, the flow is from a project to a sales invoice. It doesn’t work the other way around, from a sales document back to a project.

I agree with Valentin; only customization can achieve this.

    Hello,

In standard Business Central there is no way to transfer Sales Quote lines directly to a Project unless you use the Job Quote / Job Planning Lines process, which you’ve already ruled out. Sales documents and Projects are deliberately separated, and there is no standard action or configuration to convert or reuse Sales Quote lines for Projects. If you need to move those lines (especially with existing sales-side customizations) into a new or existing Project in a structured, repeatable way, then custom development is the only viable solution; anything else would be manual work (copy/paste or Excel) and not scalable or traceable.

    Hi,

We faced the similar situation in one of our client. After deep research, customization was the only option to move Sales line from Sales Quote to Project planning lines as Billable lines.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.

Customization is the path here.  To give a suggestion, create a "Make Project" or "Move to Project" action in the header.  Instead of creating a Sales Order the action would either create a Project (less likely in a Project environment) or write the Project Planning Lines of type Billable to an existing Project.  Since it is an accepted Quote, you could have the process convert the Project from Planning/Quote to Open status.  The process should also delete the Sales Quote to complete the process.

This allows you to track the Sales Quote through your CRM process and also update your Project upon acceptance.  This also allows the Project to carry out the future billing through the standard Project Billing methods, avoiding additional customization.
