Calculating Unit cost from Rolled up cost of BOM - NOT using standard cost

Hi,

We are using FIFO on all items. When I go to Costs shares of an item I can see the current costs of this based on the BOM and routing costs. However the Unit cost reflects the updated cost when last produced. I would like to update all the items to show  the unit cost as the current rolled up cost of the BOM. There is a procedure in BC but this only works for Standard cost. So does anyone know of a way to update the unit cost on the item card if we are not using standard cost?
I have the same question (0)

If you can't just type it into that field then no, not for FIFO.

I don't need to actually update the item card unit cost. What I really want is to know what the actual unit cost is based on the BOM and the only way I see this is through the cost share view. Is there a way or report to see the cost share for all items?

    Hello,

You cannot update Unit Cost from BOM/Routing when using FIFO.
Only Standard Cost supports cost roll-ups.
With FIFO, Unit Cost always comes from the last actual receipt/production, and there is no standard way to overwrite it with rolled-up costs, you’d need a small customization if you want that behavior.

Yes, this is standard practice; only customization can achieve what you mentioned.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Business Central does not automatically update Unit Cost for FIFO items based on BOM roll-up because FIFO valuation relies on actual transaction-based cost layers, not a fixed cost.

The standard Roll Up Cost procedure only works for Standard Cost items. For FIFO, the Unit Cost on the Item Card updates when new purchases or production postings occur or after running Adjust Cost – Item Entries, but this reflects historical costs, not current BOM costs.

To show the rolled-up BOM cost as Unit Cost, you must either manually update it after using Calculate Standard Cost or create a custom extension to push the calculated cost into the Unit Cost field for informational purposes.

    Hi,

There is no built-in feature for this in FIFO or Average costing. It requires customization or manual update.

    Thanks
