Designing a Modern Data Platform with Dynamics 365, Governance, and AI in Mind

We’re exploring how to design a modern data platform that integrates well with Dynamics 365 and other Microsoft technologies while still staying scalable and manageable long term. Our goals include supporting data ingestion from Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and other business systems, enabling analytics and reporting, and preparing for future AI/ML use cases. At the same time, we’re facing increasing requirements around data governance, security, compliance, and data quality.

For those who’ve worked on similar architectures:

  • How are you structuring your modern data platform alongside Dynamics 365?
  • Are you using a data lake, data warehouse, or lakehouse approach in Azure?
  • How do you handle governance and access control without slowing down business users?
  • What tools or design decisions helped reduce complexity and tool sprawl?
  • Any lessons learned when preparing your platform for AI and advanced analytics?
Looking for practical insights from real implementations in the Microsoft ecosystem.

    Hi  talktoaliveallen,

Can you tell us what Dynamics 365 application this question is related to? There are several different solutions in the Dynamics 365 family, like: Sales, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations, and Customer Insights. Maybe you are using multiple Dynamics 365 products?

Your question is pretty broad. Without knowing more details about all the processes that needs to be supported in your environment now and in the future, suggestions might be incorrect for your organization.

At least, one option would be using Micrsosoft Fabric. You can link data, create reports in Power BI and there is support for AI.
