I would really like to know how to upgrade SQL Server 2005 Express to SQL Server 2014 Express and install Management Studio if possible.

I have never been successful downloading and managing to upgrade the 2005 database to the 2014 structure. Can some one guide me

If that doesn't work, you could also try installing SQL 2008, restore to that, then use 2008 manager to do a backup and then install sql 2014 and that should restore.

    Hi seminolebs,

Are you able to bypass the warning?

What is the Compatibility Level if you look at the Properties of the database?

View or Change the Compatibility Level of a Database - SQL Server | Microsoft Docs

SQL Server 2014 does not support Compatability Level 90:

ALTER DATABASE Compatibility Level (Transact-SQL) - SQL Server | Microsoft Docs

When I follow the steps to upgrade a 2005 instance MSSQLEXPRESS to 2014, I get the following rule check error:

User database compatibility level equal or less than 90 check generated warning

    Hi Seminolebs,

NOTE: Before performing any upgrade, etc. to SQL, it is recommended to make a backup of all databases as needed.

In testing, I installed SQL Server 2014 without issue using the below steps:

    1. Clicked Download on the SQL Server 2014 Express page.

Download Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express from Official Microsoft Download Center

    2. Selected 'ExpressAdv 32BIT\SQLEXPRADV_x86+ENU.exe':

    3. Selected Upgrade:

    4. Selected the instance to upgrade:

    5. Upgrade installed without issue:

Once SQL Server was upgraded, I validated I was able to log into Store Operations Manager and POS.
