Hi:

When you copy Configuration Packages from one company into a different company in the same environment or into a different company within a different environment, does the data transfer as well?

Thanks!

John

When you export Package and Import package then it will take care of the Data.
Copy company will exactly copy the source one.

Configuration Package is used to move the data.

However, Configuration Packages cannot import posted data, such as Posted Documents or Entry tables. Exporting is no problem.
Therefore, it is impossible to import a Company into another environment using Configuration Package.

    Thanks.

Data can transfer IF you explicitly export and import it. This all depends on the method used:

Data Does Not Transfer When You:
    - Simply copy the package definition (i.e., table mappings, field selections) without exporting/importing the actual data.
    - Or if using the Configuration Worksheet without triggering the “Copy Data from Company” action.

    Data Transfers When You:
    - Use RapidStart Services to export the Configuration Package with data (to Excel or .rapidstart format).
    - Then import that package into the target company and APPLY the data manually.
    * This works across:
      - Companies in the same environment
      - Companies in different environments (assuming access and permissions).

    hi

copying a configuration package from one company to another only transfers the package structure, meaning the table and field definitions, but not the underlying data. If you need the data to move as well, you must explicitly export the package with data and then import it into the target company or environment. This way, both the structure and the records are included, and you can apply them in the new company. As a best practice, always check the “No. of Records” column in the configuration package before exporting to confirm whether data is included.

You can copy the package and import into Environment . The Package structure can be copied and exported .  You should have all the necessary feilds in the new environment . Package will not be applied successfully .

Copy Package works only in Same Environment . Not for other environment . As it copy creation of existing Configuration package .

Copy PAckage gets created you need to apply

To apply in different environment , you need to ensure data structure is same else it will give error

You export the package assuming fields and table structure is same in both environments

Import Package , apply data in new environment
after import u need to apply

If you feel this helpful , please verify the answer

    Hi

When you copy Configuration Packages from one company to another within the same environment or across different environments in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the data transfer depends on the setup of the package. Configuration Packages allow you to selectively transfer table data by including specific tables and fields in the package. When you export a package from the source company and import it into the target company, it transfers the data contained in those selected tables, provided the destination tables are empty. This method is useful for transferring master data and setup information but requires that both companies have compatible schemas to avoid transfer issues.

However, the Configuration Package does not automatically synchronize data between companies; it is a one-time transfer used typically during initial setup or data migration. If the companies are in different environments, you can still use configuration packages to export and import data, but the process must be done manually. For a full copy of a company, including all configurations and data, Business Central offers a "Copy Company" feature that creates an exact duplicate of a company within the same environment. For selective data copy, the Configuration Worksheet with the "Copy Data from Company" feature can be used, again ensuring that the source tables have data and the destination tables do not, as Business Central does not overwrite existing data during this process

    Thanks
