Contacts not appearing in search results when searching for Account name

I have this weird issue that just presented itself where the contacts aren't appearing in relevance search or categorized search, when searching on accounts.

For example, "ABC" has 7 contacts attached to it, but when you search "ABC" you get the account to pop up in results, but it doesn't list any contacts. It will list leads and opportunities and emails and such.

I hope this is just some silly security setting. Does anyone know? Thanks!

    Hey,

Are you trying this on "Global Search"? If yes, have you checked if the Contact entity is listed as one of the Global Search entities?

    It should look like this:

You can get to this screen by going to Settings --> System Settings --> General Tab and scroll down to "Set up Search" as per the screenshot

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Mohamed! This would be a logical solution, however I just checked and Contacts is a part of the Selected Entities already. I am trying this on global search, and it doesn't seem to be tied to a particular user, I have the same problem as sys admin as well.

    Hello Houston,

Please check the view which shows the contacts in the account entity.  The view would be pulling data only from active contacts etc..

    Hi,

Can you check the Relevance Search Settings for your CRM Instance?

Open the customizations area, select entities and clicking on ‘Configure Relevance Search’

This will then present you with the ‘Select Entities’ window

Check if Contact is listed in it, If not add it and then You will need to save and publish any changes made for them to take effect.

    Relevance Search Fields:

The fields which are searched and shown by the relevance search feature are the same fields which are used by the quick find view.  This means that the fields added to the Find and View columns set the behaviour of the search.  These have to be set per entity if you are wanting to alter the out the box selections. The find Columns set the searchable fields and the view columns set the fields that are displayed when there is a match to the search criteria

    To configure :

Again from the Customizations area, select the required entity and go to Views.

Then open the ‘Quick Find Active’ View

Open either the ‘Add View Columns’ or ‘Add Find Columns’

Once the windows have opened select the fields you want to add to the search,

Then press OK and publish the changes. The changes made here will apply all the quick find configurations on the system.

Now that relevance search has been enabled and configured it’s is set as the default search. It can be accessed in the usual way of entering the search criteria in the ‘global’ search field on the on the navigation bar (via the magnifying glass).

    Hope this helps!!

Thanks all! I discovered the issue. When trying to fix another thing a while back, I made a change that affected the search. I had unchecked 'parentcustomerid' in the Quick Find Active Contacts find columns. Adding it back fixed it!
