Importing Opportunities against duplicate company

Hi all,

I am have started a new role working on Dynamics CRM (hosted internally).  We are looking to import opportunities but it will not import all of them as there are duplicate companies with the same name (so it doesn't know what one to put it against).

From what I understand this can be valid as two completely separate companies can exists in different countries but with the same name.

Therefore is there any way when we do an import of opportunities that we upload against something unique like the accountID?  Or even the company name and country may work?

Many thanks for your advice,

Dan

RE: Importing Opportunities against duplicate company

    Hi Dan,

Welcome to CRM community, As you are trying to achieve importing opportunities with duplicate company name. The error is mainly because by default the customer is mapped to Account name. Now you have 2 options:

    1. if you are using Account number field then you can replace customer name column with that and while importing you will have to select the Account number in that.

    www.powerobjects.com/.../importing-lookup-values-using-crm-2011-data-import-wizard

    2. Export the Accounts which are duplicate with the re-import option as true. When you open that file you will get the Guid's of the records. Then create a column in the opportunity file and place guid's for respective customer. Then import and map it to the accountid as shown in above link for account number.

RE: Importing Opportunities against duplicate company

Hi Dan, thank you for reaching out.

Yes you can do this with a data import map. Instead of using the Opportunity Import Template, use a basic csv file. Convert your Opportunity list into CSV then make sure it has that unique field that exists in CRM like account ID. Then when you import the wizard will ask if you want to use an existing map. After you complete this once you will save the map and choose it here. For now continue with default. Then it will ask what entity this is for, and then a field mapping page will open. Now you will go down each field and map it accordingly. (TIP: if the fields on your csv file are the same name the system will auto map those.)

As for the account relationship or any other lookup you will have the ability to edit the lookup. By default it selects name, but you will uncheck name and check the field that is the unique match from your csv file to the account record. Finish mapping then hit next. On the last page before you import it will show the usual allow duplicates, select owner, and save map.

Here you want to save this map. Give it a proper name so you can easily identify it next time. Then import the records.

I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day!

    -Tom
