GP company is locked - msg "Someone is clearing company files and you cannot get into this company."

Hello Everybody.

We are setting up a new company in GP10 -

We created a blank company (via Utilities) and then I restored a backup of an existing company (so we could copy the GL accounts and any other setups we could re-use) -

To delete any transactional data we used Maintenance >> Clear Data -

It looks like the system might have locked, and now when we try to login we see the message "Someone is clearing company files and you cannot get into this company."

We were logged in as 'sa' when we tried this operation, but when I look at the User Activity, I see User ID 'CLEAR DATA COMP' logged into the company.

I searched both the error message and this user ID in the GP Knowledge Base and come up empty. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Worst case we will probably restore another backup, but curious whether the issue can be resolved.

Thanks for any feedback,

Maria.

    I would perform these steps:

    1) Get everyone out of GP or any other program using SQL.

    2) Stop and start the SQL services.

    3) Restore the Dynamics and company databases affected

    4) Check the tempdb database and look at the DEX_LOCK and DEX_SESSIONS tables. While no one is in GP those two tables should be empty. Delete any records in those tables.

Once these steps are done you will need to start all over.

All steps provided by Richard are also my recommendation. I would add the script from CustomerSource that changes company names throughout the entire database of the newly created company, since you restored from an existing company database. (refer to KB871973 for that script, step 6)

    Good luck with that,

    Jason

    Hello Maria,

You've probably got this resolved already, but if not, the recommendation is to do the following:

    1. Make sure you have good, recent backups of the databases and make sure everyone is logged out of the Dynamics GP system.

    2. Run the following scripts:

      a. Delete DYNAMICS..ACTIVITY

      b. Delete DYNAMICS..SY00801

      c. Delete SY03400   (ran against the company database(s) as needed)

The SY00801 is the Resource Activity table and the SY03400 is the File Maintenance Error Log table. It is possible that when this user was kicked out of GP that records became "stuck" in these tables.

    Thank you

    HI Maria,

I wanted to see if you had a chance to look at Derek's information. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you
