Scan Functionality Limitations?

I'm interested in utilizing the scan function for GP to have documents attach directly to invoices, customer cards, and the like, but I'm being told there are limitation in what can be scanned to GP. I've been told that you can only scan a single page and that it must be a JPEG.

Has anyone configured the scan function for GP and have you been able to scan multiple pages to a PDF? I'm looking to scan a huge amount of volume into GP, so the number of clicks involved in utilizing even a strong scanner would make it worth configuring a scanner to path directly to GP.

Thank you!

    Hi,

I think you wanted to attach documents to invoices or customers.  In GP 2013 you can attach any kind of documents there is no restrictions.  To setup document attachment please refer the following window.

Administration >> Setup >> Company >> Document Attachment Setup

    Agree with Babu...

never heard about that limitation that it can only be JPEG format and single page.. Since document attachement is a newly added function with GP 2013, scanned documents in GP where potentially managed by 3-rd party applications before that.

Check this blog  post for more about doc attachement :mahmoudsaadi.blogspot.ca/.../gp-2013-document-attachments-faqs.html

    Hi,

We are only being able to scan one page at a time using this feature. Has anyone found a solution to this?

    Hi Beat and Babu,

Thank you for the reply. I don't think I did a very good job explaining--my problem doesn't have so much to do with the attach feature (working fine for any document format, and it is not limited to a single page), but rather the scan function within GP. I've been trying to get it GP scan function configured and it seems to be limited to a single page--and also JPEG formatting. Have you heard this about the GP scan function?

    Thank you!

I recent ran into this issue with a customer.  I had to open a case with Microsoft to get a definitive answer:

    ASSESSMENT:

Thank you for your time on the phone today! It was a pleasure speaking with you!

Here is a recap of the conversation we had on the phone today.  You were wondering if it was possible for using the scan feature of Doc Attach to change the .jpeg setting to .pdf.

After some research, I was not able to find any documentation on how to change the .jpeg file to .pdf format.  I looked into the help file within Microsoft Dynamics GP and it stats the following:

“The document is saved in a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.”

So at this moment unfortunately, there is not a support method to change the .jpeg format to .pdf. I believe if there was a way, that help file should have steps on how to do that.

As we discussed on the phone, I have found the steps on how to submit a Product Suggestion request.  I would recommend that you use the product suggestion link below to let development know that you would like this to be looked at and fixed/changed. Please do check to see if this is already being suggested by other partners/customers first.

Unfortunately, this means no multi-page as well.  If you run in to this issue, please submit a "Suggestion" via the link above.

    Hi Jim,

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify this for me and sharing your experience. It helps to know that we are not the only ones with this limitation.

    Thanks again!

    Cory
