item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

I am lot specific tracking, and have kept all  Inbound/Outbound settings that lot specific tracking defaults to. However, when I choose a specific lot in a SO, the pick list does not send me to the correct bin.  Will this not lead to poor lot tracing eventually?  When choosing lot specific tracking, the lot warehouse tracking does not default to 'on'.  Why not?  What exactly is lot warehouse tracking?

I have the same question (0)

With Item Tracking Code Card \ Lot (SN) Warehouse Tracking = yes system consider Lot (SN) in required status for warehouse documents (Warehouse Entry story)

Standard system cannot switch-ON Lot Warehouse Tracking when we already have the entries.

Maybe you should blocked the 'problem' Item Card and create new Item Card and start with right settings (add new Item Tracking Code Card \ Lot Warehouse Tracking field = Yes)..

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

The original scenario I presented was a brand new item with a newly created item tracking code.  When the Lot Warehouse Tracking is 'on', I cannot add a Lot# to any line entry on any Inbound document.  If I return to 'off' setting I have no problem.  I can live without the Lot Warehouse Tracking; I would just like to understand it more.  However, the problem of picking a specific Lot# in a Sales Order and then not being sent to the correct Bin to pick it is a big issue.  Our organization cannot live with that.

not sure that I fully understood your story, In general if you used "Lot Warehouse Tracking" = yes then this is mean that you use Location Card a-la location WHITE from CRONUS system, WMS location..., use Warehouse Pick (Put-away, Shipment, Receipt), maybe useful links:

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

Thank you for taking the time to help with my question.  I am in the final stretch of a sandbox version of our own production company with access to Cronus Canada Inc., whose Locations are East, Main, West,... no White.  Our own Warehouse Set Up is simple, requiring put-away, pick and bin mandatory.  I have Inventory Put Aways and Inventory Picks, not Warehouse Put Aways or Warehouse Picks.  From everything I have read or watched on video, Lot Specific Tracking should work for me.  Lot Warehouse Tracking is not part of Lot Specific Tracking, but another option to select (or not).  When selected, I am not able to add a Lot# to the Inventory Put Away line.  When not selected, I am able to add Lot# to the put away line.

In my most recent test, with Lot Specific Tracking, I had one item number with 7 different Lot#, sitting in 7 different Bins (one bin per lot#).  I picked the Lot# that was in Bin SPR001.  However, when I printed the Inventory Pick List for the shipment, it had me picking the item number from Bin HMK003.  This Bin does have the Item# I am looking for, but the Lot# and Expiry date differ from what I picked in the Sales Order.  This is bound to cause grief sooner or later.  I expect I am missing a step in the picking, or perhaps a set up is incomplete.  All help welcome.

Got brave and Posted the shipment.  In my Items, the item quantity has been reduced across the right Lot# - the very specific one I chose in the shipment.  However, my Bin contents have reduced from the wrong Bin.

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

    Expiration Date...

Well, In such case you need (best choice) to set "Pick According to FEFO" (this automatically build the lines for Inventory Pick) on 'Location Card' and on 'Item Tracking Code' need to set "Lot Warehouse Tracking" (need for "Pick According to FEFO"), in such setup you could manipulate with Bin, Lot, Expiration Date on Inventory Put-away/Pick docs (add to Lines necessary fields via Personalize).

    System allow you use Split Line option on Inventory Put-away, set Bin, Lot Expiration Date;

System auto fill Inventory Pick lines.

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

Again, thank you for your help; screen shots are very helpful and do seem to indicate that I am set up and working as I should.  The exception is the FEFO setting.  Is this tied to Lot Warehouse Tracking?  If so, then I likely cannot use it.  Our organization ships world wide.  Sometimes people pick up from our warehouse, sometimes our products are shipped by overnight express or air, sometimes they ship by ocean container.  We must be able to pick whichever Lot/Expiry is suitable for the shipping method.  So there are days when we will pick/pack/ship our best/longest dated products to go by container, leaving our shorter dated inventory in stock for the next customer who is able to receive the product more quickly.

I have begun reading in detail Microsoft documents on FEFO setting.  It seems I might be able to override the 'according to FEFO'  by not designating my Bins as type Pick.  I will experiment, but would welcome your knowledgeable experience.

    Thank you!

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

If consider the FEFO scenario that I show on screenshots then… a user still can change the Lot that system suggested as a default.. on Inventory Pick lines (system still control Expiration Date and do not allow to use Expired lot…).

    Lot Warehouse Tracking ..

Well, my opinion (maybe this is not 100% true) about the design.

Lot Warehouse Tracking is not about Pick According to FEFO, this is more about where a user setup/fill the Lots..

If a user focus on the initial documents, and fill the Lots on a Purchase Order, and more important on a Sales Order then you do not need setup this checker (Lot Warehouse Tracking).. // Item Ledger Entry way as primary way.

If a user has an additional layer of documents that specific for Warehouse (Inventory Pick, Warehouse Pick, …) and a user focus on this layer.. use this layer for filling the Lots then Lot Warehouse Tracking is your choice.. // Warehouse Entry way as primary way.

Of course, need to check all potential scenarios…

    Good luck in your experiments.

    P.S.

"Lot Warehouse Tracking" need for "Pick According to FEFO" auto-fill feature...

RE: item lot tracking codes, lot warehouse tracking

As long as Lot Warehouse Tracking is on, I cannot add a lot# to the item tracking lines.  Is there another setting in the program that would not allow me to use the lot warehouse tracking?  I have a dimension attached to line items in the PO.  Could that be a problem?  Also, for inventory put away, I am required to choose line menu, the get source documents, then item tracking lines and only then add the lot# and expiry.  May I share screen shots from my program on the forum?

    Hmmm...

I've done test on BC 15.2 W1 (on-prem) for the same scenario BUT with such setups:

    WMS1.png

    WMS2.png

    In this new scenario
Purchase Order via Line \ Item Tracking Lines I set Lots and Expiration Dates, after that I fill Bins in Inventory Put-away.
For Sales Order via Line \ Item Tracking Lines I select necessary Lots manually, after that I post Inventory Pick as is.
