Assigning accounts resets activities, notes, etc. to new owner

Hello!

As the subject says, when users assign accounts all the activities, notes, call logs, etc. all look like the new owner entered them.  I can't imagine why anyone would want this sort of behavior.  Historical data belongs to the person who entered it, not to the person hired yesterday.

That illogical thinking aside, I would like to know how to correct it.  I saw the post linked below, but I did not understand it fully.  I think part of that had to do with what I encountered when I went into customizations for the account entity, and noticed all the properties were grayed out.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Phil

    Hi Phil,

Yes, this part can be fixed through customization.

By default their relationship is the parental, meaning that any new assignment, deletion, etc it will also reflect the child records, such as Note, Activities, etc.

Why someone still wants this behavior?

Let's say your organization has strict ownership and data security, so each user can only see their own data, including parent record (Account) or activities and notes.

Then, one of your best salesman resign, replaced by another salesperson..

Now, you assign the Account to the sales B.

He/she can see the Account data, but not the related child records.

So, this behavior will be needed for keeping the new owner can see the previous records.

For the history? We still have 'Created By' field.

Well, it's depending on your business requirement, just a though why still wants this feature.

Anyway, you can refer to these links to fix your problem:

And to learn about relationship behavior concept

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

RE: Assigning accounts resets activities, notes, etc. to new owner

    Hi Phil,

By default the Account has Parental Relationship with Note, Activity (Email, Phone Call ... etc).

If you want to change this behaviour, go to your 1:N Relationship under Account Entity and change the Relationship Behaviour to Configurable Cascading and change the Assign option to None.

This way, when you assign the Account to a new person, the related records won't get assigned.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks
