GP Login Issue

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I have a very strange issue here. Currently in GP server, we having just ONE ODBC conenction for user used to login Dynamics GP.

However, when i created a new ODBC in the same server, using exactly the same setting as the existing ODBC, it turns out login failed when we try to use that new ODBC setting. It only allows "sa" to login successfully.

Server language is in ENGLISH and the new odbc setting is tested successful during creation.

Any clues?

THank you.

If anyone at Microsoft monitiors this board can you please provide a definitive answer on this. It is very frustrating to not be able to explain when two computers, using the same version of the SQL Native Clients, why one connects and the other does not when using an account other than 'sa'.

Are you using this version of the SQL Native Client.

The problem is the hashing of the password. We have W7 64 computers and some have this problem and others do not even with the newer SQL client. I know for a fact everytime we go back to just using the SQL Client it works every time. So try dropping your DSN and use just the SQL Client not the SQL Native Client.

Yes the machine is on 64bit and we can setup the ODBC connection.

the strange issue here is it behave differently when using 2 different ODBC connection name but having exactly the same setup setting.

    thank you.

Is the machine you're setting up x64?  If the machine is x64 you have to use/create a 32bit ODBC connection.  It is in the Windows\sysWOW64 directory.

    Hi,

I have check the Server is already in latest SQL2008 R2 native client. And both of the ODBC connection are pointing to SQLSRVR using server name.

Existing working is using server name

When i created the new, i tried both using server name as well as IP address also return user login failed during DYnamics GP login.

    Any other clues?

    THank you.

The password is encrypted with the SQL server name.  If one ODBC connection is pointing at SQLSRVR and the other pointing at SQLSRVR.company.com you will observe this problem.

Yes, you are having the same problem we had had with several new W7 64 bit computers. The passwords get hashed and only the 'sa' account will work. You have two choices:

    1) Change your ODBC conneciton to use SQL Client, not SQL Native Client

    2) Download the latest SQL Native Client for SQL Server 2008

So you either downgrade or upgrade your SQL Client.
