Get the Dimension Set ID for Integration

Hi Experts,

We have a third party software from which the purchase and sales data will be pushed into business central. Along with the other details a the third party software will also try to push a bunch of dimensions related to a purchase or sale.  For the same I need to know the Dimension Set ID so that correct combination of dimensions will be pushed by the integration of the third party software and the business central

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get/calculate the Dimension Set ID in the third party software will be immense help as we have completed everything for integration but stuck except inserting correct combination (about set of six dimension values).

Eagerly awaiting for your suggestions.

Thanks

Are any of the 6 not set as shortcut dimensions?

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for replying.

So sorry for replying late, was in the middle of a meeting. Yeah all of the dimensions are set as shortcut dimensions.

    Thanks

Also just to add, we are using SOAP service for integration...

If it is SOAP are you not using web services already? Sales Line, Purchase Line, General Journal Line all have fields for the 8 shortcut dimensions. Can you not just use those:

Worth trying the dimension set entry table procedure of GetDimensionSetID. It expects a parameter of the dimension set entry. Which means you would need to pass data via something else to build it up as required. Perhaps a stand alone codeunit. I build on that concept here: joshanglesea.wordpress.com/.../

You would need to pass a different data type as you’d need all the dimension codes that will eventually make up the dimension set. I think the mentioned function takes care of sets that don’t currently exist too

New dimension Set ID's are dynamically generated every time a never before used combination of dimensions is used. Therefore, you could only add these to the data export if you were using sets known to be recurring that would have an existing Dimension Set ID.
