Adding Description_2 Field to Sales Quote Report

(6) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 14
Hello,

I've been leaning Dynamics 365 for my small shop CRM and could'nt find a clear post on adding (Description_2) field to "Sales Quote" report ,however I've managed to succesfully configured VSC and published a reportextension to make "Description_2" visible in exported word report XML and these were the issues that I've encountered.

There is a (description 2) field available in sales quote BC365 via personalization however, not visible in report.

1. By looking at "Standard Sales Quote" definition in VSC, there is no "Description_2" field available in the source and maybe this is the reason why XML cannot link to BC365.
2. I've encounted an error as image attached.

Please advice, Thank you.

    Hello ,

The error isn’t about Description 2 itself — it means your Word layout is bound to an XPath that doesn’t exist in the report dataset at runtime. After adding Description_2 via a reportextension, you must re-download the Word layout so the XML schema includes the new node, then re-map the field from the XML Mapping pane (don’t reuse old content controls). Also make sure Description_2 is added to the same Sales Line dataitem and mapped inside the repeating Line group in Word; otherwise Word can’t resolve it and throws UnknownDataBinding. This is standard BC Word layout behavior.

    Hi, hope the following helps.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: Why are custom columns/fields added via Report Extension not found in standard layouts exported from Report Layouts page?
    Report extensibility (ReportExtension Object)

    Thanks.

You'll want to be careful where you place the Description 2 output on the report.  The standard BC report puts Description 2 in a separate column next to the original Description field.  This can take up a lot of space and make the readability difficult.

Not to totally change your path, but you may want to look into using Extended Text, which will appear directly below the Description on screen and on the report.  This makes it easy to extend your descriptions beyond the character limit of the original Description field without complicating the reporting or screen visibility.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for all the support.

As referred to (Extended Text), is this field available to the (Line) section via personalization?
